Kornerup, Jacob (1825-1913)

Jacob Kornerup was a Danish artist and archaeologist predominantly known for the restoration and cataloguing of numerous medieval church frescoes. He also produced portraits, landscapes and scenes. He trained initially in his hometown of Roskilde and later at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. The British Museum holds examples of his work.

Born in Roskilde, Denmark, to Ebbe Kornerup, a merchant, and Inger Caroline Brønniche.

Studied under Martinus Rørbye.

1847-1853

Trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.

1851

Undertook study tours to Gotland with Johan Daniel Herholdt.

1852

Awarded the Academy Silver Medal.

1852-1854

Shown at the Charlottenburg Spring Exhibition.

1854-1855

Undertook study tours to Germany, Dalmatia and Italy with Ferdinand Meldahl.

1856-1859
